BOD5, COD, and Surfactants in Discharge Water in the Vicinity of a Tannery in Salcedo, Ecuador

Abstract Water is one of the most important resources in world, but its contamination has remained a serious environmental problem due to advances industrialization, agriculture, urbanization and overpopulation. The present work focused on recognizing parameters sewage tannery industry located Salcedo, Ecuador hopefully avoid effects that could be caused by it future. A total 20 water samples were collected transported according Ecuadorian standards regulations. Three different sampling points chosen (located approximately 100 m apart) as well three days two times factors for experimental design. an independent laboratory analysis. Parameters COD, BOD5, dissolved oxygen, surfactants analyzed volumetry techniques UV-VIS spectrophotometry. pH, flow temperature measured situ. Analysis variance was run resulting data (95% confidence). It concluded all exceed official thresholds, except flow. This information expected used alert local regulators.
